جب کوئی کام ماضی میں مکمل طور ختم ہو گیا ہو تو ہم past perfect tense کا استعمال کرتے ہیں -
past perfect tense میں verb کی 3rd form کا استعمال ہوتا ہے -
وہ جا چکا تھا -

جب کسی جملہ میں دو کام ختم ہو رہے ہوتے ہیں اور ایک کام پہلے ختم ہوتا ہے اور دوسرا کام بعد میں پھر ہم پہلے ختم ہونے والے جملے کو past perfect tense میں بناتے ہیں اور بعد میں ختم ہونے والے جملے کو past indefinite میں بناتے ہیں -
جیسے
اس کے آنے سے پہلے میں کام ختم کر چکا تھا -
I had finished my work before he came.
اس جملے میں میں کام ختم کر چکا تھا والا sentence کو past perfect میں بنایا گیا ہے کیونکہ کام پہلے ختم ہوا اور اس کے آنے والی فعل بعد میں ہوئی ہے -
میں تمہارے جانے کے بعد اس سے ملنے گیا تھا -

اس جملے میں جانے کا کام پہلے ہوا اور ملنے کا کام بعد میں اس لیے اس سے ملنے گیا تھا والا sentence past indefinite میں بنا ہے اور جانے کے بعد والا past perfect tense میں بنا ہے -

میرے اسٹیشن پہنچنے سے پہلے ہی ٹرین جا چکی تھی -
